Ready to become a top producing agent? Today we have Super Agent Wes Madden on the show, a former blackhawk helicopter pilot turned CEO of Madden Real Estate in Fairbanks Alaska.
After the army, Wes decided to move to Alaska and take a crack at real estate. He quickly found that most real estate agents in his franchise ran the business without systems and, as a result, were not doing very well. Implementing his systems, hustling and keeping the focus on the customer, Wes became the top agent in Fairbanks in his first year. Always an adrenaline junkie, Wes talks about hustle, how to build a great team and taking your business to the next level.
Tips For Success
- Systemize: Winning listing is not a matter of luck. The best agents in any city have clear systems in place to target, market, follow-up and sell any listing.
- Guidance: Finding a mentor is a great way to skyrocket your business potential. Mentors will help you focus on dollar producing activities and teach you how to build great teams and powerful systems.
- Hustle: In real estate, your success is directly proportionate to the amount of work you put into your business. In the beginning, you will have to sacrifice balance to build the life you want, but once you get some traction you will finally reap the rewards.
How To Build A Successful Team
A team is made up of many different components, and each one plays a key role in the success of the realty. Here are some tips for building your team:
- Timetrack: The first step to building your team is finding out what you need team members for. To do this, Wes broke down his day into 30 minute increments and differentiated between dollar producing activities and supporting activities. All support activities were delegated to an assistant, giving him the freedom to focus on creating more business. As your team grows, you will repeat this process to bring in listing/buyer agents and marketing personnel.
- Create A Culture: When you start building your team, make sure you create a culture around it that represents your brand. This will vary depending on what niche you focus on, but having a culture will give your business an identity to future leads and team members.
- Have Team Members, Not Employees: As the team starts to grow, the culture may seem to dilute. Keep the company young and exciting by always innovating and giving your team buy-in in some shape or form. This will make them feel included, and not surprisingly, make them more loyal.
- Guide: As newcomers, most of your new agents won’t have much experience in the business. Your job as CEO should always be find an agents strength, train them and put them in a position to be successful. In the end, this means you will have a strong team and happier clients.
Golden Nuggets
- Be More Than A Realtor: Wes knows he’s more than just a realtor, he’s a relocation director for families moving to cold Alaska. When new homeowners come to your area, act as a relocation expert and provide any useful information on the area, schools and attractions.
- Avoid Information Overload: When talking with your mentor or listening to the show, don’t try to implement everything at once. Take 3 things you learned and focus on that until you succeed.
- Giveback: Real estate agents provide services to the community, so it makes perfect sense for you to get involved and get your name out there while giving back to your city.
- Do Whatever It Takes: In this business, it’s about discipline. Do whatever it takes to be successful and do not engage in limiting beliefs.
